Dave Eggers grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from University of Illinois. He went on to write varying works such as the best selling memoir, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (2000) which won the Pulitzer Price for General Non-Fiction. He continued with a few novels including, The Circle, in 2013.
When not writing, Eggers was helping found organizations such as:
- 826 Valencia, a nonprofit youth writing and tutoring center in San Francisco
- McSweeney's, an independent publishing house
- ScholarMatch, a program that matches donors with students seeing college tuition funds
